- Een fantastische stad
A collection of compositions that Aspasia Nasopoulou wrote between 2011 and 2021 is inspired by the book of Italo Calvino, The Invisible Cities. Marco Polo, the merchant and adventurer from Venice, tells Kublai Kan about his travels through the ruler’s empire. “It seems to me that you have never visited the cities you describe”, says Kublai Kan to the ever resourceful Marco Polo. “Everything I see and do gets its meaning from a void in the spirit where the same calmness resides as here in this garden”
- Five Single Breaths
The piece was composed for the special sound pallet of Japanese Sho and accordion and was part of the production Forest Passage during Nasopoulou’s portrait in Orgelpark. The plain, elegant and the same time rough minimalism of the different traditional Japanese forms of arts is reflected in different works of hers.‘Five single breaths’ were inspired by five traditional haikus which are contemplating on the elements of wood, water, metal, fire and earth.
- Hitotsu
The piece is composed for Japanese Sho and voice and based on the contemporary poem by Dan Albertson which was especially written for this composition. Nasopoulou’s fasciantion with the plain, elegant and the same time rough minimalism of the different traditional Japanese forms of art comes back in many of her pieces. In this piece nature and eternal wonderings are unfolding via a poetic almost mystic soundscape.
- Square-Oblong
Ten Dipoles is a series of ten musical miniatures inspired by oppositions which, according to pre-Aristotelian philosophy, give rise to all existing things (like left- right, dark-light, straight-bent). It was composed for Seldom Sene recorders Quintet and 10 Free Aerophones designed and made by Horst Rickes and Ernst Dullemond.
- Parelduiken
